Knowing that, I'm not sure what happens when you open the HD software standalone or with another interface. I guess the input monitoring button is still there and just doesn't work in those cases.
It would be interesting to know if it was there and grayed out or if it simply detects a lack of HD hardware and launches the equivalent of PT9+CPTK

that's what happens. HD/TDM hardware is needed to see PTHD9. or as you said you'll see it as PT9+CPTK

So all joking aside, has anyone that owns HD confirmed this is what happens when you open a session on HD without the hardware?
Also do you lose the ability to do destructive punch without the hardware?

The input monitoring button definitely is not there. Will need to test destructo puncho, I don't know why you'd need an HD card to do this, but it's probably not going to work if dts said so.

When you boot HD9 with no hardware, the splash screen still says "HD 9"
