Bad luck Barry
May as well open it up now…you never know
Just curious Barry, you say you had it racked (as i do) was it racked with clearance either above or below?
Was there clearance at the sides…where the venting is
Mine is racked in an open sided rack and have always worried about putting it in a 2u portable case as lots do, mainly for gigging. Not that you have done this as you say it never left the studio.
I,m just trying to glean some info, to see why some units have this problem and it is a problem. Its not one or two isolated incidents.

cheers
J

Took it apart, inside looks brand new as the outside. Criminal on Avid's behalf abandoning this more than common issue. Metric Halo, Apogee, even Motu would not ignore this issue! All of the above has been known to regularly replace out of warranty known issue equipment failures with refurbished replacements! Not Avid! No, never Avid!

What is do sad, is I have invested in over 50k in Avid gear to only be let down by an 800.00 piece of gear! Insane!

I'm sorry, yes feel free to ask me anything, anytime. Mine was racked in a four space rack with nothing above or below it.

I don't think there would be an issue having gear racked above and below it as it does not get hot at all. Hope this helps!
