HELP!!!!!! Room Treatment
Any one know how those sound blankets http://www.markertek.com/MTStore/ product.CFM?BaseItem=SAB%2D1 compare to foam treatment. I'm in a small control room/ VO room treated with Auralex, but the entrance has no door and opens up to a living room with vaulted cielings. Which means I'm still getting a little slap back reverb in my VO's. Will a sound blanket covering the open doorway block that echo?

Re: HELP!!!!!! Room Treatment
Probably.
You can experiment with any heavy blanket before purchasing this - just hold it over your doorway and see if it reduces or eliminates the problem for you. If so, go ahead and buy the Markertek product (which is essentially just a "moving blanket").

Re: HELP!!!!!! Room Treatment
those look are like furniture packing blankets used on moving and delivery trucks. $20 certainly isnt bad, but i wonder how much those really would cost from a moving or hauling company.
I'm actually looking into getting a few of those for my office/studio to cut down on the verb as well...i think they'll work just fine. as a matter of fact a local studio here uses those as well to deaden there main room when they need a little more, works great! |

Re: HELP!!!!!! Room Treatment
What's the size of the entrance? My reason for asking is a better solution might be to get some solid folding closet doors and cover them with Auralex.
You can leave them connected or seperate them and put feet on them (gives more flexibilty with placement) and works pretty good all things considered. |

Re: HELP!!!!!! Room Treatment
I did a quick search to see if buying MOVING PADS would be cheaper. The following links are places to get some of these if you wanted as low as $10 each, although you may have to buy in quantity at some places as noted.
$10 each, but you have to buy 12 at a time. http://www.stantonquilting.com/ourpads.htm $15.95 each http://www.connectworld.net/boxes/moving-blanket.html $14.95 each http://www.cvfsupplycompany.com/movblanquilm.html $13.13 each if bought 6 at a time. http://www.cameronpackaging.com/moving_blankets.html $11.21 each http://www.mrboxonline.com/moving_blankets.html Well, I guess that's enought searching for now. I'll be getting some myself. Ostrich99

Re: HELP!!!!!! Room Treatment
As an aside. Has anybody tested the validity of the humble egg carton's claim to fame as a sound insulator?

Re: HELP!!!!!! Room Treatment
hahaha - what a great idea those guys have! buy moving blankets, mark up the price and sell them for portable sound insulation! my favorite part of their ad is "Colors and Patterns may vary". i imagine (at wholesale prices) a few hundred of those blankets would cost next to nothing. thats a pretty good markup they have going, wish i had thought of it first.
as far as egg crates- they are ok to "deaden" the sound inside a room, but thats about it. a little cardboard won't keep noise from escaping a room.

Re: HELP!!!!!! Room Treatment
My next question is this. Does anyone know from experience if the "aucoustic" and "moving" blankets are the exact same product? Or do the "acoustic" blanks have different materials to diffuse sound better. Even though it's not a lot of cash, I don't want to waste $$$$ on something that will not fit the bill.
