Can\'t record to Firewire Drive - Too Much glue?
I've been trying to find an answer to my problem herein the forum and in the compatibility docs, but to no avail.
I just got a SIIG 3-port firewire card to connect my Western Digital 120GB USB/Firewire drive. It won't let me change it to a Record or even a playback drive in Digibase. Is it a partion thing I have to do? It's currently 1 big NTFS primary partion. I had it as a giant FAT32 partion before and that didn't work either. I have partionmagic so I can do any of that stuff no problem. Indexing and system restore are turned off. I have it set for Optimized for performance. Other specs: a7V600-X 3200 Athlon 1gb RAM Digi001 LE 6.4 Not sure what else

Re: Can\'t record to Firewire Drive - Too Much glue
Does the FW drive use the Oxford911chipset? Is the drive 7200rpm or faster? IF you answer not to either of these questions, that's your problem.

Re: Can\'t record to Firewire Drive - Too Much glue
Hello trostals
I don't think it's the partition, though I only say that from my experience. I've got a 120 gig WD drive in a fw/usb enclosure, also hooked up to a siig card. It has one big ntfs partition as well, and works like a charm. I did buy the enclosure seperately, ADS, with oxford 911 chipset. Was yours a package deal?

Re: Can\'t record to Firewire Drive - Too Much glue?
I've had this drive plugged into a MAC before when I did some studio work at Ironwood in Seattle, and it reported it as a Oxford 911 chipset drive.
I have Western Digital's FireWire/USB 2.0 Combo SE external hard drives with an 8 MB buffer. 7200RPM. Is there a utility to verify the chipset?

Re: Can\'t record to Firewire Drive - Too Much glue
Just for kicks, I would back up any files that are on the drive, and then do a full format/initialization. I had weird problems a while back, and everything was fixed simply by doing this.

Re: Can\'t record to Firewire Drive - FYI!!!
For anyone else that runs into this and uses Partitionmagic 8.0 on XP:
I looked in Administrative tools -> Computer Management -> Disk Management and my firewire drive was showing up formatted but not initialized. I had to delete the partion in Disk management, then initialize the drive. THEN I could use partionmagic to make it a great big fat32 file. As a side note, I don't understand why the firewire will record with PT and not USB2. It certainly transfers files faster. 26GB is taking about 19minutes from one drive to another with firewire - it only took 12 minutes with USB2.
