Default Allen & heath qu-24 ??

Anybody using the QU-24 with Pro Tools ?
Just wondering about interfacing it with a MacBook Pro and how its working with USB. (Does not have FireWire. )
I have been using 2 Presonus "firewire" interfaces to get 16 inputs.
Would like to change over to a control surface for mixing & recording..
Any ideas ?
Thanks; je

Though you can use these types of mixers as audio interfaces, I'm pretty sure they do not function as control surfaces for your DAW (though I'm not sure about the Presonus Studio Live stuff).

Indeed, unless the mixer offers a HUI mode, it will only act as an interface and not a controller. The Behringer X32 and Midas M32 both have HUI function but I don't know about the A&H

On page 7 of the Qu-32 users guide in the Overview section that pertains to all Qu series products;
  • MIDI DAW Control driver for Mac (converts to HUI or Mackie Control)
Seems to indicate that it will support HUI. Here's a link to the manual;

Keep in mind the control layer (or whatever A&H calls it) has limited use in a studio setting because the faders are not touch-sensitive, even though they are motorized. Similar deal for Presonus, it's not motorized or touch sensitive despite the silver-colored saddles. If you only work in write mode, the A&H will do fine... But I don't know anyone who works only in write mode anymore.

When you say not touch-sensitive, does that mean if I make changes ( while mixing or recording) that Pro Tools will not remember the changes?

Not exactly. It means that the console won't let you interrupt automation playback by touch. So you basically only get one pass of automation.

So no one uses these live mixers to control automation in Pro Tools?

You should be able to punch in and out in write mode? Not as optimal as latch write, but still usable IMO.
