Default Can\'t centre delay!

Hey guys.

When I use the standard stereo delay, the primary sounds gets panned on the left and the delay is on the right. I can't find the parameters to centre the sounds.
How do I do it?
I bet there is a really easy answer
I've been trying to figure it out for a while.

Thanks all
Duane

Use an aux track and buss the dry track to the aux track with the delay.. you can then use the pan faders.

Or, Waves Supertap has pan control so you can put the delay(s) anywhere you want. You still should use an AUX track so you can have JUST the delay on the AUX and keep the dry by itself.

Thanks guys but regardless, shouldn't you be able to pan the delay without using an aux track? otherwise it gets rather difficult to follow, for example, 10 seperate stereo aux tracks amongst the 32 tracks!

I didn't know that you can have aux tracks over the 32 tracks i'm using.
You learn something new every day!

When ever using an effect like delay or reverb you should put it on a buss/aux send.. that's more in line with the way you would work on a real console.. and you'll get more use out of your CPU as you can share effects easier.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Rail I have used this method many times for Waves Ren.Rverb through a buss/aux send and it just doesn't sound as good to me on the vocals versus applying it directly to the track. I spent alot of time working with this and there is a big difference in the quality. That was with PTLE 5.1. Haven't tried with 5.3 yet. I had a harder time getting the proper imaging that I was looking for. If the computer can handle it wouldn't it be better to just go direct?

Allen

I've never A-B'd the two methods.. I just always set it up the way I would on an SSL. In theory there shouldn't be any quality difference - the only difference is the 1 sample of delay in using an aux send. Perhaps if I have time next week I'll do some testing.

I can't think of any reason there should be a huge sonic difference -- method A across the vocal the effect is summed in with the vocal.. method B the effect is summed in via the mix buss. With method A the summing is performed by the plug-in and method B by PT. Make sure that when you use an aux send/return that the effect is set to 100% wet otherwise it will sound phasey (not good).

Here's the way I look at it...

When you use a bus or AUX track...you leave the effect at 100% wet, and then you add the effect to the track by bringing up the AUX, leaving the dry signal alone.
When you put the effect directly on the track, the AMOUNT of effect you use is controlled by the wet/dry control. As you add the effect (make it wetter) you start decreasing the amount of dry and the full sound of the signal starts to diminish.

I wouldn't recommend using Verb directly on a track for vocals. I feel you compromise the integrity of the track.

However, there are many uses for an effect directly on a track...like if you want a washed out sound of an instrument to give it a spacey, far away sound or whatever.

Allen...I don't know why you are hearing lower quality by using an AUX track. There should be no difference.
One thing to always remember, if you use an AUX track...you should leave it 100% wet...otherwise, you're bringing more of the dry signal back in and you could have phase issues.
