If not, then write in the appropriate notes with the pencil tool (see the Creative collection pdf manual for which notes those are). ProTools will play them back however you "program" them. This is not a realtime method.. you need some kind of controller for that

Re: Drum Machine Functionality
I think I'm going to go with the Korg Kaossilator KP3... it seems more like a toy then the other ones and I think that is what I am looking for for this particular application. Plus the tubes in the ESX-1 could break, and guitar center doesn't sell the es-1 anymore.
At least that's if these devices do what I think they all do. I think these devices all write MIDI arpeggios (i guess you would call them arpeggios). One of my friends has a Korg Micro... maybe I can steal it from him. |

Re: Drum Machine Functionality
ES-1 mkII is a drum sequencer not an arpeggiator and they have long been discontinued but ebay lists the ES-1 mkII.

Re: Drum Machine Functionality
I want them to send out midi notes in patterns...they don't necessarily have to be arpeggios... but they can't just be c3 in rhythm either.

Re: Drum Machine Functionality
The ES-1 mkII does send MIDI event data that Pro Tools can record.

Re: Drum Machine Functionality
Damn, it would really be jazzy if the KP3 did that. How does it not? I don't understand... it has a MIDI out... MIDI doesn't "make" drum sounds, it "triggers" them.
Is MIDI event data just like MIDI note data except with extra things like velocity and stuff on each note and all in between and stuff? |

Re: Drum Machine Functionality
There is two types of MIDI data, Channel and Message data. Message data is note start, gate length, velocity, aftertouch, etc., and Channel data is output assignments, etc.

Re: Drum Machine Functionality
So this is why calling it an arpeggiator is very ill >.>

Re: Drum Machine Functionality
Although a drum sequencer and arpeggiator read rests and ties, a drum sequencer does not read pitch, typically.
