Default Apollo High-Resolution Interface with Realtime UAD Processing

I am going to be getting the new 27" IMAC and the Apollo High-Resolution Interface with Realtime UAD with the Thunderbolt option in the apollo Processing using PT 10. I will also be using an external Thunderbolt HD

Is anyone using this type of set up? I am looking for feedback from anyone who may have some experience with the new MACS yet as well as the Apollo unit.

Thanks

Saw this over on the UAD forums - it's something that those that don't go there won't know about. Apparently you need to first start up the Apollo on firewire when doing the software install and then switch it over to the Thunderbolt connection.

Just one of those things that shows one really needs to do research and read support docs before a purchase, especially a big one like this. It's the little things like this that can put a wrench in the works. Imagine not having a $30 adapter put a stop to things.

Thanks - I have seen that on that forum. I was asking for feedback from this forum from anyone using the unit with the new IMAC and PT 10. I have read the manual. What I am trying to ascertain is the real world experience.

Thanks

I'm using the Apollo Quad. It rocks.
My only beef is that PT I/O routing with the inserts.
When you want to use a hardware insert you need to use outputs 3/4 and back into inputs 5/6 to complete a stereo loop.
Crazy I know.
Not sure if its a UA or AVID issue.
But, Pro tools at least, offsets the I/O by two channels since there are 10 analog outs & 8 analog ins.
So, it ends up being a brain bender a bit, but it will work if you rework your patching.
Somewhat of a hassle though.
I did try to make a custom PT I/O package to overcome this flaw, but I didn't help any.
UA spoke about a matrix feature to overcome this.
Though to mix when things aren't quite right in the setup. Gonna take a bit of getting used to.
I'm going to test this on Cubase 7 and see if it does the same thing.

Most likely a UAD thing, because usually I use the same I/O of my hardware to get back in pro tools. Out by output 15 for example, back in input 15.

Here's a video I found that explains the same thing.
