Default Finding the Tempo?

Hey there,

I know this is a rather trivial question, and one which has been covered a number of times but I can't find the relevant thread to solve my problem...

I've for some drum tracks that I need to know the tempo of - how do I do this?
I'm guessing it's by using Beat Detective or Elastic Audio somehow?

Thanks!

This depends a little on the drum tracks. You could try to select some bars (or even one) and then use Event > Identify Beat. This will calculate the exact speed for your selection. If you go through the song like this you will get an exact tempo map for all the song. For more details search your manual for Identify Beat.

Can you provide some more specifics about your situation? Are these live drum tracks? Are they played to a click? If so, do you have the click as an audio track?

I just upgraded to 7.4 last week so I am new to elastic audio, but if you navigate to your audio file in the workspace window, you can analyze the tempo right there. Just right click on the file and choose Calculate Elastic Analysis. The tempo shows up in a column in the right pane. I have only tried this with loops, so I'm not sure how it will work with full length drum tracks. Also you would only get an average tempo, I think, this way.

I've noticed that it will sometimes figure the tempo at half or double what you know it should be, but that's easy to figure out. Maybe the choice of algorithm will help here... This has been very handy so far.. Elastic Audio is a great update

I'll be curious if you can use this feature this way...

FYI The Elastic audio TCE algorithm doesnt affect how elastic audio detects tempo. It only affects how it plays back.
