Default Multiple bit depths in PT: WHEN??

Does anybody care about Pro Tools being able to handle multiple bit depths in the same session? This is a big issue for me because I have to deal with material coming from many sources; some that max out at 16 bit (AVIDs for example). Importing lots of 16 bit files into a 24 bit session is a big PITA. Digi, where is this on the priority list? What's difficult about it?

Yes digi ...please get this happening. I remember a digi eng. dood saying it was not that difficult, and they didn't realise it was a big deal to us..
Ones again DIGI....IT IS!!!
Our SFX libraries are at 16 bit, so its a bit difficult for us to change over to 24 bit at this stage for our TV work.

Yeah I can't tell you how many times I have had projects brought to me on 16 bit ADAT and they want to record more stuff (vocals, etc.) with me into PT. That means I have to convert the 16 bit originals to 24 bit because I refuse to record anything at 16 bit anymore. Besides what does the 888|24 do when you record in 16 bit. Does it chop off the last 8 bits or does it actually dither? Anyway I just think its a real waste of a third of my hard drive to put 8 zeroes on the end of every sample just so I can do more recording/bouncing in 24 bit.

It's very important, and should only take a day to figure out. Write the code please!

Yes, but not with TDM, only with their native (or ASIO) drivers AFAIK).

Yeah, because it's using DAE. That's the issue.

The silence from Digi on this thread/topic is matched only by their reply (lack thereof) to my direct email.

bumping up.
