Multiple bit depths in same AAF/OMF
I just received an AAF with bit depths listed as 16, 24. Will Protools convert everything to my session bit depth? Is there any potential issues? Everything so far sounds fine, but I don't want to get half way into it and realize there's a problem.
I vaguely recall seeing a thread about this in the past but can't find it. Any help is appreciated. |

Re: Multiple bit depths in same AAF/OMF
Pro Tools will convert everything to your session's bit depth. It is really not a gigantic deal one way or the other. 16-->24 won't sound better, but it won't sound worse; PT will just add 8 empty bits. If you are working at 16 and there are 24b files, PT will dither using TPDF which is pretty benign, and really hard to hear unless you are listening on an excellent system, know what you are listening for to things like long reverb tails.
