Default Transparent De-essers

See question at bottom related to this description.

I've recently purchased the UAD Manley VOX Box, which includes a de-esser element. It's transparency is nothing like I've used before. I used it for my awful vocals and it took out the bad, harsh edge I had in the 3k area, but did not simply notch it out like others have. Using it on a resonant guitar in a small room was love at first strum. My acoustics' tracking now results in pleasing warm sounds.

I guess by "transparent", I mean to say that it leaves the bulk of your sound in-tact. In other words, definitely NOT a notch filter.

So the question: Good, transparent de-essers. Do you have a nice, transparent de-esser that you can advise?

Thanks in advance

I've got a bunch but I like the original Waves one much of the time.

Never liked the Renaissance DeEsser by comparison. Always found it a bit 'spitty' and grainy in the top end.

We worth giving the Avid Dyn3 De-Esser a go too!

I owned a Voxbox for some time, I think I liked the owner's manual better than the actual gear! Definitely a recommended read even if you don't own the unit itself.

I do a lot of de-essing thru automation, but if I'm just slapping a plugin on I use either Eiosis' e2Deesser or Massey's De:Esser. I've found the key for good results to my ears for both plugins is to use the mix knob.

Izotope RX and the Spectral Repair module is my go to go difficult esses. Ultra clean and precise. If I'm in a rush the Fab Filter Pro DS is what I would put on a track to tame sibilant voals or dialog in my case.

I have many, but Sonnox Supressor is king of the transparacy hill. This I think, partly because it has 2 stages/functionalities. One is a de-esser with a lot of parameters and the second is a general level detection which ensures it is always operating at a good level. This means you don't have to set it as aggressively to catch and get reduction in more quiet sibilants.

Thanks, folks. I've got a few to test out now. The only ones I've ever tried in the past turned out to be little more than glorified notch filters, so I just sort of stopped trying them out.

Hi,

Brainworx Dynamic EQ. Lots of filter types to choose from, separate key filters, a max gain setting to limit how much it boosts or cuts. M/S mode so can treat the mono and stereo field separately. lots of good features.

Has anyone tried that new Waves Sibilance thing yet? I picked it up for freesies and kind of forgot to even try it out.
