Question You learn sumthing new everyday

I was watching some u tubes video and discovered the pre section in the send window. This definitely help me with my mixes. Forgive me but i should
I should have known but I didn't.

My question is can someone explain the difference between the pre and post fader in the send window. Forgive my ignorance.
