I decided to freeze at 10.4.9 on my 2.0GHZ Dual PPC, running 7.4.2, about two years ago. The system (HD2) works very well, and I simply can't see going through all the pain and cost of either doing the PCIe crossgrade or getting an expansion chassis, transferring all my plugins, etc., when what I have works fine. While there are some nice features in 8.x, it's not enough for me to pull the trigger. Maybe someday when some interesting new hardware comes out, but otherwise I'm standing pat and hoping my computer doesn't have any issues...

If I remember right, 7.4.2 only works on 10.5. You probably have 7.4 if you´re still on Tiger.
You can go to 8.0 without changing cards or getting an expansion chassis.
All you need to get is 10.5 and PT 8.0 (unless I´m missing something here). Works great on PPC here.

G5 Dual 2.0 with 13-Slot Expansion Chassis, HD4 Accel, SCSI 128 kit, eSATA card, everything PCI or PCIx, Pro Tools 8.0cs3.

System is rock solid.

Spending a stack of cash to move to PCIe would be a drag.
