5.1 Release Date/Windows ME

I recently bought a new Sony VAIO running WinME. I now realize I made a mistake, and am trying to decide whether to try to "downgrade" the system to Win98 Se or wait for PTLE 5.1 to be released. It seems converting to Win98 Se is a major hassle, but I don't want to wait forever for 5.1 to come out. A couple quick questions:
Has a release date been set for PTLE 5.1?
Any known problems with Sony VAIO systems? I'll probably have more questions in the future.
