4 second delay before playback

Hi,

Trying to get to the bottom of this on a friend's machine.

Mac G5 dual 2
TDM
HD 3 accel
Protools 8
OSX.5.8 (??)

Now,

We just had a G5 die out from under us....
We purchased a new one and installed the Mac hard drive in the new machine.
All is well except for this new glitch.

When you hit play (spacebar), there is a 4 second delay before it plays back.
I checked the 2 bar count off, pre-roll is off.
Open ended record set to 10 minutes.
Played with the playback engine settings with no difference.
No video.
Can anyone think of anything else to try?
I also tried turning the sound output in Mac settings to Internal.

Twisting our brains in knots over this.

RAM sticks may be damaged
same model or different model G5, anything challenge/response authorized
PRAM cleared, Permissions repaired
