Default What does HD in Pro Tools 10 HD stand for and mean?

I'm about to purchase the software and I'm new to creating music. Just doing some research. I know this may be a stupid question to you seasoned guys but I couldn't find anything on the web that told me what it was. I didn't want to assume it meant High Definition but I could be wrong.

Doesn't really mean anything. It's like most letters after car names and other products with "3D" "HD" "SE" "LE", they're just categorical nomenclature. One could assume HD stands for "High Definition" or some such, which is probably what it is implying... but I don't think it's ever really stood for anything specific.

Exactly.

The main thing is simply to not get hung up on marketing, and get the features you need.

Lol....thanks all. I was beating myself up looking all over the place trying to figure out what the significance of that name was.

when HD came out it is when we went from 44.1/48 up to 192
when LE came out the long tag was Limited Edition

What exactly are you trying to do that you need Pro Tools HD and not just Pro Tools? If you give a detailed description you may find that, at least for now, you can save some dollars and just use vanilla Pro Tools.

Cheers,
