i'm really new to this so not really in not a very good position to give advice, except that when I went to hear demos of the motu interface against a digi 888'24 I only noticed a slightly better enhancement (with a vocal) on the 888/24, and the bassdrum had a little more deep bottom end. But it was very close and propably wouldn't make much real difference in a mix (remeber I heard these elements isolated, and not really in a real world situation. But I really dont think the motu kicked the digi interface's ass!!.

ProTools TDM does not use the processing power of the 'host'computer. The benefit of TDM is that a slow computer running a lot of DSP cards can outpower host based systems pretty easily and he computers system is not taxed by how many plug ins are running. MOTU, no matter what 'interface' it is using, uses 'host processing' menaing the systems processor.

I know a couple of people who have bought MOTU systems (before 001 came out) and absolutely hated them. Ended up selling them for 001s. From my limited experience with MOTU, they basically suck.

I use Pro Tools, but the 2408 system absolutely does not suck at all. People are using those things for major movie scores.
