Default Error 6085 & 6097 Please Please read !!!

Here's my setup, I don't really know what else to include, so I'll give you my 'about this mac' explanation:

iMac G5
Machine Model: PowerMac 12,1
CPU type: PowerPC G5 (3.0)
Number of CPUs: 1
CPU Speed: 1.9 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
Memory: 2.5 GB
Bus Speed: 633 MHz
Boot Rom Version: 5.2.6f1

G5 has 2 FW ports on the back, but not sure what they are 400 or 800

External Drive: OWC Mercury Elite
It has a FW400 and 2 FW800 on the front

Interface: 002

In the past I was saving all my songs on the external drive, but somehow it was changed to transfer only. I had no idea how to change it to playback or record until recently. By then it was already too late, I started getting these error messages. I decreased and increased CPU down to 128 and still the same thing. I turned off Airport and Bluetooth settings, disconnected everything and reconnected, still got error messages. My FW cables are 2 and 3 feet long. The only thing I have plugins or VI's I have installed is Addictive drums and updated it. That's it. Everything else that was installed is what came with the 002. I recently started getting these error messages and did some research, but there are so many different approaches to fixing it that I have no idea where to start.

Should I uninstall and reinstall PT? Anything I should remove? If so, how? I am not really a computer guy, so be easy. I did move all my songs over to the external once I changed it from transer to playback and record. It still gives me both messages playing back from the external or internal drive.

Please help. I have a project coming up for TV that I have commited to, and with all this happening I'm screwed. ANY help or direction would be much appreciated.

Woodrow

I forgot to mention that I have FW? coming out of G5 to the 002, and from the 002 to the external drive's FW 400 slot. I think that's everything.

Your attempt at providing your system info is rather scattershot.

Read all of thishttp://duc.digidesign.com/showthread.php?t=193636

You have not given your full PT version
You have not given your OS version

Then read all of thishttp://duc.digidesign.com/showthread.php?t=54888

Really.... Read ALL of it and follow as much of the instructions as possible.

Now that you have a basis for explaining your problem...

You seem to mention Addictive drums being updated and that possibly coinciding with the beginning of your troubles?

If so, then remove that plugin from the "Plug-Ins" folder and see if your system works any better.

You have your FW chain wrong. It should be:

iMac <> Hard Drive <> 002. The reasons for this have been explained many times before...

You should always record to a non-OS HD, not your internal drive.

Other than those things, I personally am not aware what those specific error codes mean so hopefully you will provide better info or someone else will chime in with more ideas..

So sorry. I am at work now, but I will post the needed info tonight. I think I could give it to you from memory, but I'll make sure and post it later today. Thanks for letting me know WHAT EXACTLY I need.

Pro Tools Version 7.0

OS Version: Mac OS X 10.4.9

I did check with the XLN Audion compatibility and it required an earlier OS version than this, so I should be good.

My interface is Digi 002.

I'm going to change the FW chain and check it out. I'll get back here later.

I tried to run my FW chain as follows:

iMac>external drive>002. There is one 400 and two 800 FW ports on the front of the external drive. I can connect iMac>external drive, but I couldn't connect the external drive to the 002 because of this. Can I use an adapter to go from 400 to 800 to connect from external drive to 002? Did that make any sense?

I'm getting 6085 and 6097 error messages, and sometimes I get one that says that there was a loss of connection to the interface. Could it be my FW chain soley? If this doesn't work I'm going to have to buy new cables and try that.

Aside from connections and setup, I'm afraid of what it might take to fix it. I get a little lost inside of a Mac to be honest. If I need to remove plugins do I simply drag them to the trash, or do I uninstall somehow? I know there are a lot of guys around here that understand this stuff. I'm just trying to make music on a stable platform. Excuse my lack of knowledge. I swear I'm doin my best. Thanks for your patience.

Are you sure you read up the two threads that flommer asked you to?

If you followed the very first thing from the "Help us help you" thread, you'd have searched the DUC THOROUGHLY before posting any more questions. There are dozens of 6085 and 6097 threads, already!

There's also an explanation of how to remove plugins in the General Troubleshooting thread (you can also drag them to the unused plugins folder).

EDIT: Oh yeah, I just realized this thread's full title, so getting back to those two threads mentioned by flommer: please please read !!!

A lot of G5's had issue with one of the firewire ports, for us the front one is useless, for other it's the rear.

Try the front firewire port.
