Default HD2 Compatibility

Hi all,

Have been offered mighty good deal on HD2 rig for one of the studios and was wondering about compatiblity issues with regards to Mac hardware, OS and Pro-tools versions.

The seller has also offered to bung in an old ProControl for free. Would this have any compatability issues regarding the same points as above?

Can I use an intel Mac/Pro-tools 8?
Will it run with leopard/snow leopard?
Etc...

I have many machines and OS's so can match the fatest possible machine with the HD2 rig.

Any sugestions would be very much appriciated.

A:)

I think you'll need to provide some more info before anyone will be able to help. First off is the system you're being offered PCI or PCIe? It will need to be PCIe to work directly with an intel mac or later generation G5. If its PCI you would have to look at an older machine or a Magma expansion chassis.

Secondly, digi say that all systems must be sold with the software license, so find out from the seller what version the existing license is then you'll know if you need an upgrade to use v8 or not.

There are some enterprising users using PT with snow leopard now, but it is not qualified yet so it is definitely NOT recommended. PT 7.4.2 and 8 work on Leopard. Any earlier versions are tiger only.

Great help already. Will get on to the seller to find out more details (I would assume it is a pre intel system as it is just over 3 years old).

Will post more detail up when I have it.

Thought Snow Leopard would be a no-no as of yet!

Thanks again.

Looks like it is PCI and needs the Magma expansion to work with one of the intel machines. Thanks for that.

Upgrading software is not a problem.

Think its a go'er!!

Anyone had experience of using the Magma expansion chassis?
Found any problems or does it all work fine with protool hardware??

Thanks
