I think 30 days would have been better. Digi has traditionaly used either 30 days or the first of the month when offering amnesty upgrades.

I'm just curious. Can you list those companies that are othering 3 months and six months free upgrades? I would tend to think thirty days from purchase is the industry norm.

If I hadn't been misled into buying my Pro Tools HD/Native + HD OMNI Bundle before Oct1 it wouldn't bother me as much.

If the upgrade was $299, as I originally thought, instead of $999 it wouldn't bother me as much.

If nobody got amnesty it wouldn't bother me as much.

But I'm new to Pro Tools and AVID (less than a month) and this is a very rough beginning. Before Oct20 I was excited about building my new system. Now I'm completely deflated. I feel like selling everything.

Me too... Registered Sept 22 and feel screwed by their short amnesty period. Emailed Avid and got back what I expected, no help.

Oh well, unless there was sonic improvements for HD TDM users (which I don't think is possible given the mixer and processing is still in the same DSP), I don't see need to upgrade. I probably would have paid $300-400, but now thinking more about moving away from Avid to something else.

I ordered LE to PT9 crossgrade Wednesday (19th) from Sweetwater. Received via FedEx today. Activated PT9 today and about 1/2 hour later received and email stating:

"Thank you for your support of Avid and its products. We're pleased to let you know that you are eligible to receive Avid's new Pro Tools 10 software upgrade from Pro Tools 9 at no charge because you've purchased and registered a qualifying Pro Tools 9 software crossgrade between October 1, 2011 and October 23rd, 2011."

I feel very lucky that FedEx delivered today instead of Monday (24th) or I might have just missed the free upgrade.

I felt pressured to buy so I pulled the trigger. About an hour after giving the dealer my credit card number I got an email with my invoice, dated September 29, and an apology that they had run out of stock and they wouldn’t be shipping my bundle for a couple of weeks.

On October 1, I went back to the dealer’s website and discovered that the special deal was extended and is still in effect to this day. So I could have waited. Oh well, not a big deal but I felt a bit raw. Either AVID or the dealer had misled me.

A few days later I was perusing the DUC and read that “something BIG is coming from AVID”. My first fear was that the HD Native card or the Omni or both was being replaced with something much better. Uh oh, I circled October 20 on my calendar.

On October 18 my Pro Tools HD/Native + HD OMNI Bundle finally arrived. From what I’d been reading on the DUC, I was now convinced that Avid’s big news was going to be Pro Tools 10. I calmly started assembling my system.

On October 20, with one eyed glued to the DUC for any news, I registered with ILok and then registered my Pro Tools 9 software. Then I saw it. FREE UPGRADE to Pro Tools 10 if you purchased AND registered on or after October 1, 2011.

I know, it’s only $299
I know, they had to draw the line somewhere.
I know, I don’t have to upgrade...but... but... but... DAMN!
When did you register it??? If it was me I would have been registering it as purchased the day my ilok was activated (don't think Avid are gonna come out & check your invoice!!)... especially for warranty - why lose warranty time when you don't even have the unit??

it clearly states in my avid account that I registered my version of PTHD 9 on 10/1/11.

didn't get a letter or an upgrade link - - what should I be looking for?

The Native HD market is for the guy's in the middle between novice and Pro. In this economy I don't think they're are a lot of people ready to shell out $ 1,000 for an upgrade. I bought my Native system in March this year and this blows.
