Default Moving Plug-ins to Unused - Does this "help" PT operate faster/better?

I only use a 12 to 20 plug-ins with any regularity - some VI, a couple EQ, some compressors, a de-esser, AIR reverb, etc.

Would I help "lighten" PT 10's load by moving all the rest over to the unused plug-in folder? Would this help PT 10 save a bit of memory as it loads in (possibly also boot faster)?

Just wondering if worthwhile, efficiency wise. I know I can set my fave plug-ins as defaults in the menu, but until we're 64-bit, I'm interested in squeezing what performance I can?

On the surface, I would say no. That is, unless they're out of date.

I'll second that comment about out-of-date plugins. I tore my hair out for a month trying to figure out what was wrong with my system until I was informed (here) that it was likely an old plugin (it was). Keep those plugins fresh!

I know I'm making an assumption - but since I recently uninstalled PT 9, to install PT 10 - I'm assuming all my plug-ins are up to date? I mean, the PT 10 "native" plugins that get installed should be up to date? (a feature I'd love to see incorporated in PT, by the way - manual "check for update" feature).

The only others I use are EZ Drummer and a couple Massey plug-ins (which inevitably request you check that they're up to date).

But everyone seems to agree (or two responders agree) that whether PT tracks 100 plugins or 10 plugins, does not effect its "engine" performance?

I'm on PT8, but I expect it's the same on 10:

You must trash your DAE/digisetup/prefs and relaunch PT (it's probably just one of them that has to do with plugins but I'm not shure which, I use Pro tools helper to do it.) That will rebuild the plugin setup at launch. Otherwise the plugin will still be "installed", it will just not show up in the menus. I learned this thru troubleshooting plugin conflicts. You will notice that PT takes longer to load the first time.

On the original question; I'm shure installed plugins use RAM wether they're in use or not, but nothing very substantial. The boot time will of course be affected, but performance in general not.

Hi,

Less plugins to load into the cache, so should load slightly faster!

Once they are cached there would be no noticeable difference.
