Default Mbox 2 on Mac OS X 10.9 (Mavericks)

Hi,

I'm testing the new OsX 10.9 (Developer Preview beta 4) with Logic X with a Mbox 2

I guess Mbox2 mini is unsupported, I've tried to use it as main audio device with several softwares, Itunes, Djay, Logic X...
The device is recognized by the Mac, and the System Configuration, Logic automatically find it and the device appears as usual but not sound come out from it. Just a rhythmic click that fades in and out, it's the same with any audio software.

Any one as suggestions? Maybe was the same with previous OS X versions.

I don't know, if someone can help or suggest please reply.

Thanx

Jonny

Of course I've Installed 10.3.3 drivers.

Maverick works fine, pretty cool stable and the RAM is managed very well.
It's got some innovations in the finder and the web browsing on safari is really immediate.
All the old software I've have installed before is running perfectly.

But..

I' don't know why my Mbox2 mini does not puts out any sound (except for a crackling click) , even if the system recognizes immediately it...

If anyone as got some ideas about this problem solving just reply...

thanx

well, I've got an update:

- the Mbox2 mini records the sound as well. Input channels are working and the Logic X records as usual the sounds from mic or line.

- The sound monitoring works but only inside the device, with headphones or speakers.

- I can record the sounds but I can't hear what I've recorded via Mbox2 mini.
So I must use the built-in sound card for listening.

Anyone knows how to fix this problem?

thank you very much

Jon

Hey Jonnyb27,

Did you ever get a fix for the issue? I'm having a very similar problem - the Mbox 2 Mini driver is driving me nuts!

Some background...

Until 10 days ago I was happily using Pro Tools 9.0.6 on a 2006 iMac 24-inch running Mountain Lion. And then a heat sink problem reoccurred and scrambled the video card. When this happened the first time three months ago, I was able to immediately switch to running PT 9.0.6 on my mid 2009 MackBook Pro with Mavericks 10.9 and it worked perfectly. When I fixed the heat sink problem I switched back to running PT on the iMac 24-inch. All good.

Since then I had updated the MBP to 10.9.1 and then 10.9.2, so when the heat sink issue on the iMac 24-inch returned, the only option I had was to again switch to my mid 2009 MacBook Pro, 8GB, 240GB SSD, now running Mavericks 10.9.2.

I know, I know... it's not compatible... but here's the thing.

It appears that it's not PT 9.0.6 on Mavericks 10.9.2 that's the problem. I've spent two entire days on phone support with Apple and my PT reseller and between them and me we've narrowed the issue to the Mbox 2 Mini driver 10.3.3 - it just doesn't want to work on Mavericks 10.9.2.

The reason we know this is because the issue I'm describing also happens when playing back audio recorded using Garageband - therefore it can't be a Pro Tools issue.

PT 9.0.6 will record - it's hearing the playback that's the problem. The audio's there, I can export it to a friend's system and he can hear and edit it on his PT 10 running Mountain Lion, but I can't hear it on my system.

Therefore upgrading to PT 11 probably won't help because it uses the same driver... 10.3.3

I hope like hell there's an updated driver for 10.9.2 on the way. I need a solution yesterday.

Did you solve the issue and if so, could you please tell me how?

Thanks in advance,

Mark

My audio worked after upgrading to Mavericks from Mountain Lion (ML) then after 24 hours listening to music, upgrading iLife, editing settings (not audio) and rebooting, it stopped working.

I upgraded and tested the new iTunes, iMovie and Garageband and VLC. After this i turned the computer off for the night. Next day the audio was not working, just with static noise and a clip every so often.

All settings are good and i have reinstalled the driver Mbox_2_USB_10_3_3_Driver_79050.dmg

I see the Mbox in the prefspane and i can choose it but i cant switch to internal speaker and back. It wont do the switch even if the internal is marked. So i pull out the USB-cable and the switch is done.

I have MacBook Pro 13" from 2011 w. Mbox2 USB. I upgraded from Mountain Lion from the Appstore the same night it got out. Most recent Mbox2 Firmware too.

So really i installed Garageband, rebooted and audio *gone* !
EDIT: Some days later i have rebooted a couple of times wo USB connected and today I reconnected it and now it works again.
EDIT: put the midi driver files back, rebooted and no sound again. It might be those two files that brings it down.

I just upgraded to Mavericks on my 2010 MacBook Pro with the MBox 2 and am experiencing no audio output from the headphone jack on the MBox and a "crackling" sound, which sounds more inline with digital artifacts, when recording vocals using Garageband.

We recorded just prior to the Mavericks update and all systems were go and sound was fine. After the update to Mavericks, not so much...

Any idea on updated drivers for the MBox that would resolve the audio I/O issues?
