Default Midi offset ?!?!

I have recorded live drum to PT,audio recording with midi metronome by PT .Then I want to overdub midi part like string and piano .Do I have to set midi offset ?After that I want to transfer that midi tracks to audio track .When do I have to set midi offset to my my song perfectly synchonize between real audio track and midi(audio) track.
