Default Using 2nd Imac for 2nd screen monitor

I have just come into a 2nd Imac and was wondering if it possible to connect it (How?) to use as a second screen, so as to have the edit window on one and the mix window on the other while tracking and mixing ?? Thanks Kev

Can iMac even use a second monitor? If so, I would just sell the second iMac and buy a nice LCD.

This is not possible, only the newest batch of imacs released a week or so ago support video input(and they only support input from another mac that has "minidisplayport" output, they will not accept HDMI, DVI or VGA adaptor cables). Depending on what model you have, you may have a video output if it's new enough. If you do have an extra output, I would just get a second LCD and sell the extra imac like albee1952 suggested.

Unless it's a G5 or one of the first intel imacs i think you should be able to run an external monitor not a second imac, you need the mini-dvi to vga adaptor.

Don't know what computer he's using but you can't use an Imac just for screen viewing. If you need a 2nd monitor and money is tight just keep your eyes peeled to the side of the road....you'll eventually find one someone is throwing out!

But you'll need a dvi-vga adapter.

I'm using a dual monitor setup here.

Just to clarify, the imacs of the last few years have a port to add a second monitor. The idea of using an imac AS a monitor is only just now possible with the just released new imacs, and ONLY the 27 inch versions, and the only way to do that is if your other computer has a display port out.

This software will apparently let you use an iMac as a second monitor.

THE dougfather knows all"""""", he's right, i have a Intel Imac 1.83 duo core, and when reading the manual from my Imac it said you can mirror the screen, well i eventually bought the SAMSUNG T260HD 26", cause i wanted more than just the 17" the Imac screen offers, so i bought the mini dvi to vga and i was shocked that it not only mirrors the screen on my Imac, it also works as a split screen, i can drag the edit window to the large samsung and keep the mixer on the smaller 17" Imac, DUDE IT ROCKS. i also didn't realize that in the back of the T260HD you can either plugin dvi or vga, one or the other right????, wrong, i have the Imac in the vga input, and my Pc in the dvi input, and the monitor sees them both, and can switch by *** remote *** between the Imac & PC, not to mention 1080I hd channels, yes it's also a TV, man i thought i would have to buy a kmv switch, i saved $70 alone buying this monitor.
