Default Upgrade PC for Digi003 Rack

I recently purchased a Digi003 Rack I plan to use with my PC, but it looks like I need to upgrade a bit.

I only have 512GB RAM, so I will need to update that (looking to go to 2GB)

I also need an external hard drive, as the one I have is USB2.0

However, I want to make sure my chipset is going to work. I have an intel pentium 4, 1800MHz, the chipset is i850. I didn't see a yay or nay on if this is supported.

If someone knows....let me know!

Thanks

Did you click on the red COMPATIBILITY link at the top of this page? As for RAM, 2 gig is a good amount. If your system is a desktop PC(not a laptop) you can add another internal hard drive and save some money.

yeah, this is what digi lists:

Intel Xeon processors with Intel 7505/7525/50xx/51xx chipsets
Intel Core 2 Duo processors with Intel 965/975 chipsets
Intel Pentium D processors with Intel 945/955 chipsets
Intel Pentium 4 processors with Intel 865/875/915/925 chipsets

since mine is just a bit before what they tested (850 chipset) I am a bit concerned. And I need to purchase more RAM, but I don't want to do that if I have to end up changing out the whole motherboard.

how much cheaper is an internal drive? The external drives only seem to be about $100 for 160GB or more....

Internal drives can be a lot cheaper if you catch a sale. I have bought 300-320 gig drives for as little as $49 at Staples or Best Buy. Best Buy has a 160gig drive on sale this week. Good point on the RAM as all the newer motherboards want DDR2. You could add another 512 and if the old system doesn't work with protools, just retire the old parts to a second computer for email or a home server.
