Default can 5400RPM system drive be used for single track recording?

hi Team,

can i use the internal 5400RPM system drive (the one where the OS resides) for my single tracks recording ?
any challenges with this approach ?

i am using "pro tools mp9+ m-audio fast track c400"

depending on the inputs i need to plan for a suitable configuration of my "would be" laptop.

regards
cherish
