Apple ProRes codec will play out firewire, why not so in PT?

Hi, maybe old news for some of you, I only discovered today: When I use the Apple ProRes codec in FCP (as a sequence preset), I can output my video via Firewire and watch it up on the plasma using a canopus ADVC 110.

Why can't I do the same in PT? I know I can use a DV file, but since both DV and ProRes use the Firewire out, I don't get it. Would be great to use better quality video in PT without investing in more expensive hardware.

Care to explain?

Bur isn't FCP playing QT to output as well? The ADVC get's it's signal from the Mac's firewire-output, regardless if it's FCP or PT. It just accepts the signal and converts to video.

But FCP does something to be able to play it out the FW; it is more than simply QT. Similarly, a GOP codec like HDV will not play out a frame-based card like a Kona; but it will play out via FCP.

PT simply shovels the QT stream out the FW port, it is not a video app.
