Default need to dump from my adat

Need help on syncing my 002 to an adat, I have 24 tracks of old adat tape that needs to be transferred to pro tools. I have a sync box (jl cooper) if needed. The other thing is that I only have 1 adat but 3 tapes of 24 track what is the best way to keep them all in sync, using only 1 adat!!!!

thanks.

Use a digital cable to transfer. Make the ADAT the master, PT the slave (optical clock source). You can only transfer 8 tracks at a time with only one ADAT. Transfer 8 at a time and then nudge. You'll really have to be careful here because you will have timing issues later in the song/session. Digital is the best way to go. BTW, there are no level setting with digital. What you have on ADAT goes to disk. No need for a sync box.

Set Protools to external sync (adat) & pop a tape in. When you press play on the adat, pt will follow. Unfortunately, the next 2 sets of 8 don't go as smoothly. You have to line them up with the first 8 after you transfer. You could always slate a test tone at the exact same location on all 24 tracks to make it easier to line up. Adat sync isn't available on LE if I'm not mistaken. Anyway, that's how I had to do it until I picked up another adat. Worked fine, just a little time consuming. Good luck!

Oh yeah ... forgot, the jl cooper box is what makes pt chase when pressing play on the adat.

I haven't tried this since win 98 (with a 001) but the same settings should work...be patient this is a little tricky and you might have to tweak settings for awhile. First uncheck midi thru...very important step, if left checked you'll end up with a loop through the data sync and nothing else you do will make it sync correctly. Gen Mtc set port to 001 or in your case 002. Under the machine tab check enable MMC, preroll 30 frames. Preferances, machine, online. Under windows menu, show session setup check MTC to port Digi, set session start to 00:00:00:000, and sync to optical. That should get you close, good luck, and let us know how you do.
