Default PT 7.4 Total Failure

After 2 weeks of using 7.4 without a single problem, I came in this morning to find it will no longer boot up. It doesn't even get to the first screen. The apple dialog box that says the program unexpectedly quit is all that I get.
Heres what I have tried, trashing prefs etc, removing all plugins except the mixers, I tried the pre binding script but it said that I didn't need it and finally a total uninstall then reinstall of PT 7.4.
I am out of ideas.... has anybody out there got any?

Reinstall your OS. If that doesn't fix it, then it's a hardware problem. Or, before you do a clean installation of Mac OS, you might try detaching all the hardware, except your digidesign cards and interfaces, and see if that helps. But I'd definitely start with reinstalling Mac OS - that can only help. Ofcourse, you must make sure you have everything backed up, and that you have all the drivers and all the software ready before starting.

Have you tried DigiTest to see if the Digidesign hardware is functioning correctly?

You might have a system drive in early stages of failure.

Did you do the Clean or Safe uninstall of PT....

Try the Clean Uninstall. Then restart. And then install PT again.

Before and after installation- Open Disk Utility and "Repair Permissions"

Hope it helps...

Next time it would help a little so get your system info and CPU model in order to trouble shoot better.

Thanks for the replies, Keep em coming
We have 2 partitions on the system drive the other has 7.1 on it which works fine so I guess that counts out digi hardware as the problem.
Yes I did a clean uninstall
I am thinking that I will need to re install the Mac OS

This very likely could be a problem with an corrupted OS service preference in your current account.

Try creating a new account, sign in under it and then launch Pro Tools. If it works, you'll know the problem is with your current account.

Not particular to 7.4, but before doing a clean install of the OS, try running Disk Warrior. It's worth the fifteen minutes. Might get you back and running, like it did me this weekend. And once you have everything running properly, clone that puppy! I also prefer not to partition. I have previous PTs all on spare drives.

One other thing to try - download and install the latest PACE drivers from www.paceap.com.

Thank you everybody for your ideas.
I opened another user account and everything is fine. Looks like I'm going to have to reinstall the OS.
I cant believe how slow 7.1 felt after only 2 weeks.
Anyway thanks again for all your help.
