I have 6 and upgraded to CC just to test it out. Guess what? Subscription ended and I will hang onto 6 as long as needed.

Using Photoshop CS5 here and staying with that as it does just what I need. I have Adobe Audition CS5 (updated to CS6) and love the features in the CC version but I can't see paying a monthly fee to do so. I'd sooner put the money towards Izotope RX Advanced to go along with my current Audition.

Using CS6 here, but looking forward to transitioning Illustrator and InDesign to CC, mainly for the improved UI scaling and GPU acceleration. Keeping the rest of the suite at CS6.

Hi there. Apologies for being late to all this, but I've had no notification from Avid on any of this, just randomly noticed this thread.

In July last year I invested in Pro Tools 11 HD and Omni, a significant cost for an independent contractor like myself. Do I now understand that if I ever want any future updates of Pro Tools, I'll need to pay an extra $600 dollars a year? And if I don't jump on this train before the end of 2015, I'll never be able to upgrade again?

Pretty much spot on...

However There are whispered rumors that avid might allow a buy back in plan for HD software......since you can't get that by itself

But that announcement has not been released by Avid at present

That is the current state. Though I'll add that the "Never be able to upgrade again" part may change (no real AVID policy here yet). My perspective is this: Over the last 15 years of using PTHD, the relative cost of major upgrades for me as been between $500-$1000 a pop. The difference between that and an annual $500 charge is not THAT exorbitant. Also, this allows AVID (in theory) to roll out changes in a more balanced fashion which makes it easier for them (again-in theory) to maintain more stability.

MANY software manufactures are moving to this subscription model (Adobe and Windows are two biggies). WAVES has been doing this for years. And in WAVES' case, I've been forced to pay WUP charges for nothing more than keeping my existing plugins working.

The acceptance curve is always a little bumpy when a company changes their policy this drastically.
