routing mac pro internal audio through pro tools
I'm fairly new to PT and want to know how to monitor/route audio such as i tunes or built in mac cd player through PT? I want to be able to A/B my PT mixes with audio cd's for comparison. I think it has something to do with core audio but not sure how to do it.
Thanks for any help Mac pro 2x2.8 GHZ quad core,HD2/192 IO/c24/JBL 4328 |

Re: routing mac pro internal audio through pro tools
I think there is a driver for that from Digidesign, put I am not near my computer. I do that by importing the files to ProTools or use an auxilary input and route the computers audio output into ProTools, and I also have the Computer's audio out split into my Mackie Big Knob, so there are a number of options. . .
On the opposite side of things. . . I want to route ProTools audio to my Airport express so that I can monitor mixes and sessions over my network, in other rooms. . . Is there a plugin and a hack I can drop in my Mac Pro that will do this. . . |

Re: routing mac pro internal audio through pro tools
Hi,
I suggest to use the optical digital output of the mac pro and connect it with an optical input of your Pro Tools interface. The core audio driver only works when Pro Tools is not open. Kind regards Mark |

Have a look at this recent thread which discusses this very issue.

Re: routing mac pro internal audio through pro tools
Another option - just import the audio you want to compare into the Pro Tools session. You can mute and unmute the track it's on as needed.

Re: routing mac pro internal audio through pro tools
There's a free app from cycling '74 called soundflower that lets you route up to 16 channels of audio between programs. It basically creates a "dummy" audio interface in core audio, that you can add to your other interface in audio midi setup by creating an aggregate device. I don't know if it works with pro tools, but it definitely works for core audio apps like logic. I use it to send audio from a VI in standalone mode into Logic.

I currently use a Toslink cable from the Mac's optical S/PDIF output, into a multi-format converter from that B-word company, and back into the 192 via AES. I can record from the 'net and iTunes, VERY handy. Don't know about going the other way out to an Airport. |
