Editors are kicking out and posting video & revisions in mp4 and h.264 for mix files. It's a way of life for us these days.
Agreed.. Have the same exact process here with editors. Usually now I can work with H.264, but have been reading about issues with sync, so they have been point mp4's and so I have used those with good success so far, but I am still on 12.3.1, but no problems on Yosemite. I have avoided upgrading any further since I can afford to be down right now. G

It is not a format for post production.

At least 3 million cheers for MPEGStreamclip--convert that h264 or MP4 to MJPEGA and your DAW will be much happier....

"usually now I can work with H.264, but have been reading about issues with sync, so they have been point mp4's and so I have used those with good success so far,"

beware , mp4 is just a container like *.mov files..,
most , if not every mp4 is in real with h264 encoded , which varies
extremly , depending how much compression (Keyframes )
is used. Its possible to work with H264 in PT if every Frame is
a Keyframe (full frames)( the other frames contain only the differences to a Keyframe).
If not , at least scrolling in PT is a Pain because PT jumps always to the
next Keyframe ......

Hi Philiper

MJPEG is not a recommended or supported codec. Read the docs or watch Andy Baker's webcast.
Stick to DNxHD36 or ProRes Proxy or even DV

Stop dealing with CODECs guys, it's got nothing to do with CODECs. This is a PT12.5 Video Engine problem.

I've figured out when I first boot ProTools 12.5, I load the session and respond with "NO" when the dialogue box comes up saying "the video engine has an error do you want to reinitialize", it then gives me the error about the "missing CODEC" which I respond with "OK", then the session boots but the video doesn't show up. I immediately close the session and re-open, it asks me if I want to start the Video Engine and I say "YES" and all is good. Video is there and plays fine.

Makes no sense.

And no, it doesn't matter what CODEC I use. The show I'm currently on is DNx36

Have you trashed prefs since going to 12.5? I have a session (300 tracks for 80 min film) where sometimes it gets stuck opening (DSP is near the limit) and if I trash prefs, it then will re-open. Admittedly it's 12.4 as I am near to finishing this film, but the principal is that s flag or something is funky, and a prefs trash often helps.....

Thanks, I guess. Working here fine! And still yay for MPEG Streamclip!

Trashed prefs, did all that stuff. No difference.
