Mbox Pro 3 not detectable, green LED not flashing

I have an MBox Pro 3 for a little more than a year and use it with an older MacBook Pro running OSX 10.6.7. This system is running in it's own partition and used solely for recording and editing with ProTools. I only use it a few times per year for recording our choir's concerts and editing it some time later.

I hadn't used it for several months and wanted to edit the last recording. When switching the Mbox Pro 3 on the green LED was lit continuously and not flashing until connected to the system as it used to. The Mbox Pro 3 is now not recognized at all by the MacBook Pro nor Protools 8.0.5 nor the Digi CoreAudio Manager 8.0.5.

Trying on the same MacBook with a different system (in another partition, running 10.6.8) and trying on my MacPro running 10.6.8 showed the same results. I updated to the latest drivers and no change. I also tried several firewire cables with and without FW400 to FW800 adapter.

Any ideas how to get it going again or do I have to trash it just three months after the warranty is out? Since a few other guys on this forum appear to have the same problem it doesn't really look like a random event.
