Andrew Scheps recently declared he is now mixing 100% ITB

I am literally stunned at the fact that some of you guys are openly basically calling this guy a liar. I'll be honest, I'm shocked. It's not like he's doing this is in some full page layout and mix magazine. He has no motivation for this, what motivation do you guys actually think he has? Everybody, and I do mean everybody, including my 11-year-old son who records, understands that plug-ins are there because the vast majority of us quite frankly cannot afford to buy 10 racks full of gear. This guy can, but for the majority of us, it doesn't make sense.

The vast majority of the MOJO is during the tracking stages where it's all analog.

I'm not saying he's right, not saying the ITB is as good as OTB, but I have no doubt he is sincere!

Am utterly convinced that a lot of what we hear on the radio was mixed ITB!

Look, I have gear lust like all of you, but I find that many times I pull up a plugin 1176 or LA2A, when I've got two 1176's and 1 LA2A in my mobile recording rack! I track with them a great deal, but more times than not, I use a plugin because it's easier for recal, and sounds pretty darn good to me!

Not a liar, just

1. misleading
2. He has a plugin with his name on it....you can't tell me money won't or couldn't influence a decision
3. He mixed somewhat famously from a console

Its really a moot point I believe him now that i watched him....and the reasons he gives for it

No doubt. But regarding the plugin money. A few top mix engineers have waves plugin bundles named after them. Not one of them has switched to 100% ITB for mixing. There is no way a guy of Andrew Scheps level is going to change his whole workflow and philosophy for some small plugin money when he makes top dollar for mixes. Also, don't think he would risk his reputation by "lying".

Topic is much more refreshing than constantly bashing Avid threads that seem to be in the majority nowadays.

Yes, I had a Pro Tools Mix system with three cards, a few years later I switched to HD Accel with three cards. I used those cards as mixing "hardware" and still do so. But Andrew works with a HD Native which offers new choices since a few years. I'm owning one by myself and mix ITB with that as well. A modern Mac outperforms my rusty HD system in mixing horsepower.
