Another thread claims that in the demos at NAMM, track freeze was working and demo's. So it would appear that track freeze is finally coming!

They've been showing track freeze since NAB last year. They're probably going to sit on it for a couple of months after the initial PT12 release so that they can show that they are releasing new features "more often".

Actually, from memory, without searching it out, I don't think that's quite right.

My reading of it was that people would receive free update bux fix releases through to the end of 2015. It DID NOT actually say that there would be no more bug fix releases after the end of 2015. That is an issue left hanging in the air by the choice of words used.

We could choose to infer that there will be no more bug fixes after that date, given that Avid has also said elsewhere that bug fix updates will be free for existing owners.

Alternatively, this could be an attempt to 'move the goalposts' by making bug fix releases after end of December subject to being on a support plan.

That same post also said that there would be a further bug fix release of Pro Tools 10 relatively soon in 2015. So there's current evidence to support Bob's assertion that bug fix releases will still go on for several years after product release. Of course it prooves nothing, but it is suggestive.

Who knows what Avid really intends? I suspect it is the wording of the communication that is careless, it wouldn't really be in Avid's interests to enforce a deadline date after which bug fix updates would not be made available to people not on a support plan, as other show stopper bugs might appear in the bug fixes that are released (not for the first time with Pro Tools 11).

Either way, it's yet another communications 'faux pas' caused by either unintentional or intentional gaps/ambiguities in its choice of words.

We all do, once Avid releases PT12 a little later. Until that, let's cut this nonsense and keep using PT11. We can make a million guesses and after the release someone will be able to brag that he/she guessed it right. But I call it nonsense.

For a freeze track feature perhaps? I can't wait until I get to demo this myself...

This is whistling past the graveyard. Sooner or later you're going to have a session that brings your system to it's knees and you'll want to have track freeze or use offline bounce. And not everybody has a super system that will run big track and fx counts.
