Unhappy 003r Blues

Hi

I have a digi003r. Apple dual G4 1.25 mirror door. PTLE 7.4, Mac Os 10.4.9
I did a dumb thing. No not my decision to become a professional musician, something else.

I was installing ram into my computer, of course unplugging all cables etc. and forgot to turn off the digi003r during this procedure. Now pro-tools is unable to find the digi003 during launch. I've tried unplugging the computer and all cables other than keyboard and monitor. Waiting re-plugging the computer and replugging the digi 003. No connection. The link light next to firewire ports comes on in the back of the unit. Is there a reset procedure on the unit? Any help would be very much appreciated. THANKS!

hmmm. might want to contact Digi directly about this one. It will be quicker than hoping someone sees this that it has happened to, because this is the first I have seen of this issue. Have you tried different FW ports? DO you have a FW hard drive and is that working well through the same port that the 003 was plugged into?

thanks for the reply

Yes I've tried different ports. And yes also to a firewire drive working fine on the same port. Chances are I've got a problem with the 003 which sucks.

Try to go through the troubleshooting process, which you can find upper in this forum, it's stickythread.
If all else fail, than try a complete uninstall/reinstall of protools. I don't think it's a problem with the 003 hardware.

due to the way the problem occurred, I'm leaning toward thinking it IS a hardware issue. But I guess a fresh re-install couldn't hurt to try...

Thanks for the reply.

I will try that. What I didn't include before is that I have a 2nd computer a Macbook that has Pro-Tools installed and also can't find the 003 when launching.

I have Logic installed on the G4 as well and it also can't find the 003.

I've been using a sonnet firewire card for my firewire inputs which has worked fine.

If I plug in firewire drives by themselves they show up on the desktop, but if I plug in the 003 first the drives will not boot either. I would think all this points to a hardware problem. That's why I was hoping there was some kind of reset process.

yup my guess is it needs to be reset somehow, which Digi will help you with. Otherwise, worst case scenario is some sort of current got sent to it and zapped it... not even sure if that is possible, but def time to contact Digi directly I think.

Yup, it's possible.

While "hot plugging" is supposed to be a FW feature, it is possible for it to cause problems or blow ports. I had done this when unplugging a cable from an external drive a couple years ago. Somehow, while unplugging, my finger ended up touching between the FW port and cable... the current running through the cable must've shorted out the port on the drive. Luckily it didn't hose the one on the computer.

Needless to say, I try to avoid hot plugging as much as possible these days.

Hey C,

How do you like your Audient ASP008? I suggest that unit to lots of people for a high end 8ch ADAT option. I have heard great things...
