I have the same problem. The menu play out of FireWire port is gray. We are trying to use Canapus ADVC110. We have OS 10.4.6,
hardware wise we have

Power Mac G5 Quad
PowerMac11,2
PowerPC G5 (1.1)
CPU Speed: 2.5 GHz
Memory: 8 GB
Bus Speed: 1.25 GHz
Pro Tools 7.1

I would really apretiate if anyone could help us in this matter

Thanks
Miha

IF the QT file is not compatable with a DV video stream the Video out option will be greyed out. Check the video stream format and/or convert the QT to a DV stream.

Also, amke sure the ADVC 110 is working properly... They have a funny habit of breaking if you insert or remove the Firewire cable with the Unit turned on. 've had to have mine replaced and I've heard from others including Canopus concerning this.
The menu option will also grey out if your firewire video device in not "seen" by the system.

cheers

this is what i was looking for:

from a thread from a few weeks ago :

Quote:
You didn't say if you had just upgraded to Tiger or not, but if you have, there is a known QT7 bug that comes along with the upgrade. On some systems the QT installer doesn't work right and NO Firewire devices will be recognized by QT. (Got bit with this when I upgraded my home rig). The solution, courtesy of the Apple boards is:

1. Go to /Library/Receipts (your main Library, not the one in the user folder)

2. Remove ALL the Qucktime Receipts EXCEPT the ones that say "Media" at the end.

3. Go to www.apple.com/quicktime and download the STANDALONE installer (do NOT do the upgrade)

4. Install and reboot.

Your CANOPUS should now be seen by PT.

bad news I tried everything but nothing gets better.I'm now on MacOS 10.4.6 and PT 7cs7,Quicktime was reinstalled too.It seems that my Pinnacle Moviebox DV won't work on this system, though it worked on MacOS 10.3&PT 6.9

Maybe I shall get a new firewire DV box.Avids cost too much for me,is there any cheaper solution?

thanks for help,minister and all

RATS!!

look at Aurora's FUSE-X and PCI card that will play ANY codec and is less than $500 USD. almost no latency -- better than any DV box.
