TASCAM US-428
What do you guys think of this as a controller while using digi001 through PTLE? I've had the digi001 for a few days and I'm already wishing I would've picked the 002 now because I'm DYING to use my hands to fiddle with final results. Does this controller work well with protools? What do you think? Thanks a lot.

Re: TASCAM US-428
Hello,
Yes the US428 works fine as a Pro Tools controller But it does not have motorized faders which you might not need anyway. I bought a Mackie HUI so I have mine for sale brand new in the box and I'll ship it to you for $300.00 USD if your interested this will save you upwards of $200.00 and as I mentioned it is new- if your interested leave me a message at |

Re: TASCAM US-428
Hey Len! Thanks for the information, and yes, I would certainly be interested. One question (and a naive one at that): what is the purpose of the motorized faders? I think i somewhat understand their use, but are they only for the purposes of 'remembering' where the last mix was when you start again? And if this is the case, I suppose you can remedy that by writing down the approximate mixes at the end of each session. Am I thinking correctly here? Again, thanks for the information.

Re: TASCAM US-428
I used to have a Tascam 428, and it's a nice unit that does offer more than just control surface type features - it can be used as a secondary sound card too (for other programs besides PT), as well as a 2X2 MIDI interface (this can work with PT). It's a good unit.
The faders do not move by themselves. The "right" way to use them is to "null" them before use - IOW, move them until the fader location on screen matches the fader location / position on the US-428. A minor pain that people with motorized faders don't have to deal with due to the faders moving back to the appropriate position when you select a different bank of faders.

Re: TASCAM US-428
The gerat thing about moving touch-sensitive faders is that you dont have to look at the screen to know where they are. They are showing that themselves. And the touch-sensitive part means that they will shut of the motors and let you control the levels by just grabbing them. The system will know you grabbed it...and when you release it. This works great in autotouch mode...

Re: TASCAM US-428
Hi Karusse,
Both Phil and Bastian (sorry about any spelling errors) are right about motorized faders-- though this is a nice low cost solution- I will pay for shipping costs also- if interested call me and I can return your call with my home address to send payment in the form of certified mail so I have to sign for the check- and I would do the same with the package along with insured mail (if you are interested). Everything is new and intact. |

Re: TASCAM US-428
Hi again Karusse,
If you are more comfortable with a different form of transaction let me know- but I have always had success with this method and have sold many items over the years to project studios and professional facilities throughout the country. Have a good one! Thanks! |
