Hmm gotcha. Yea I would prefer no risk, but the insight of that happening is priceless, thank you for that.

I don't think ATI cards are immune to the bug, either. You should check the waves bug thread to make sure.

Dude: do you know you can build a custom MAC Pro using PC parts?, that's what I was talking about.

Sorry, I was unintentionally vague. The thread is stickied in the Windows section here, the title is i7 Builds. http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t=238426

About the SIIG 3-port firewire card, does it have both FW400 and FW800 ports? This will pose a problem to Focusrite interfaces. I didn't realize you were using a Saffire, otherwise I would have said something sooner.

As per this whitepaper (and various forum posts I've seen all over the place from users), you want a card with FW400 only. If your card has both types, you should exchange it.

Quote:
Known Incompatibilities

- Most FireWire 400/800 and FireWire/USB “Combo Cards”
We have seen undesirable behaviour with “Combo Cards”, and as such recommend using
cards with only FireWire 400 ports.
The SIIG NN-E2012-S2 (~$40) is the one they list as supported, although any PCIe FW400-only card with a TI chipset should do.

I tried to dig into focusrites compatibility page as far as firewire to usb 3.0 but was unsuccessful, never thought it went further. Thanks again Mesaone. Huge help. That would be the worst if audio processing was a hardware issue.

I'm not sure what you mean. Audio processing (well, the process of conversion) can be a hardware issue. Is it a combo card?
