Why isn\'t Quick Punch quick ??
Just got an Mbox2 with PT LE 7.3.1 and have upgraded to the latest cs.
Sony Vaio BX297XP laptop, Win XP sp2, 2gb ram, 2 x internal 100gb sata drives. I'm new to this system, having been a loooooooongtime cubase user and need to do a project requiring PT. So, the basic problem I'm having is when using the punch in/out #3, it's sometimes instant and sometimes not ( can be 3 or 4 seconds before it starts)! It randomly happens when I'm starting at the beginning of an audio track Don't know if any preferences have to be a certain way for this not to happen, if so, any help or workarounds appreciated. btw, my task manager always shows the CPU usage is at 100% when running PT, is this normal ? thanks Lyn |

No pre or post-roll used and I didn't even know the combination, let alone hit it ! Could it be processor related though ? With no other apps open and Antivirus turned off etc, it strikes me as odd that the task manager is running flat out even with nothing happening ! Anyone else have such high overheads ? Lyn |

Re: Why isn\'t Quick Punch quick ??
Are you saying if you're in QuickPunch and hit play - playback is instant but when you punch in it's slow? I don't believe that's possible since in QP when in Play you're in record in the background.. which is why if you do punch in you can trim back to where you started playback from.
If you're seeing a general slowness to start playback in QP, then reduce your Open Ended Record Allocation to 10 minutes. Rail

Re: Why isn\'t Quick Punch quick ??
Thanks for the responses but still no joy. Changed the record allocation to 10 mins - no difference. Re-installed too - no difference ! The response time for playback or quickpunch seems to be time-dependent, if that makes sense ! If I hit the play or punch after a minute or so, it starts 3 or 4 seconds later but if I then stop and start again it's instant ! What I do find crazy though is why my Windows task manager processor is running at 100% when I have nothing running and no tracks at all - a blank screen! Yet, the PT system usage cpu shows nothing. I'm sure this has something to do with it. Any more ideas ? |

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh dear !!!!!
Hmmmmm, exactly it ! My Sony Vaio/Pentium M set-up too, fans also Well thanks for bringing this to my attention, interestingly no-one ever reported my exact working problem but, with the heat and cpu stuff, doesn't surprise me that something had to give ...... |

Re: Why isn\'t Quick Punch quick ??
Next time choose GOOGLE THE DUC from the top of the screen. I have never had a problem with PT that was not solved by searching. Especially the answerbase
