Default Movie Making

I’m writing a score for a short movie using PT 11. I’m after any any tips and tricks out there…. how do other people write???

I have worked out how to import video into a PT 11 session and place it into a track (split audio from clip), but it would be handy if the Vid ran on a separate screen (bit like the mixer).

Any ideas?

Thanks

Gub

A PCIe or Thunderbolt video interface would allow you to view the video on another display. You will need to measure the video sync offset (Setup-->Peripherals) in order for your audio and video to be in sync.

Default Re: Movie Making

You can also just plug in an additional display (assuming your video card supports it) and move the video window to that screen.

Not ideal if you're scoring a movie, I suppose - but it works for me when mixing for lower-budget music videos - then again I only have to sync the multitrack to a slate, so accuracy is not exactly a huge concern.

Jonathan, do you have any recommendations for an inexpensive (<$1000) video interface? Is the Decklink Mini Monitor okay?

I have not researched these devices, as my employer's current setup uses the Blackmagic DeckLink HD Extreme 3(D) PCIe card for video playback.

If you do not have a setup that can use video reference (genlock), then that card should be OK. If you have (or need) video reference (genlock), then I would consider the DeckLink SDI 4K
