Default Recording off a CD from a CD deck via optical

I am trying to record a CD playing on a CD deck into PTLE via an optical cable from the deck to the optical In on the Digi001PCI card.

Though I am somewhat successful the sound quality is sh•t - I do not get the full dynamic range that the CD has as loud sections are clipped/distorted.

What am I doing wrong?

This is not an answer to your question, but is there a particular reason you are re-recording the CD rather than digitally extracting the audio from the CD using a ripping utility? Just curious.

Hi

I have had no problems using the copper SPDIF input on the DIGI001 from a CD player. In fact until recently I never ripped audio from CDs using the CDROM drive in the computer since this used to result in small random clicks (recent version of Toast Audio Extractor is ok though). If your CD player has an ordinary SPDIF output, try that. Also check the setup options to make sure there is no extra gain on digital input into PT (I can't remember if you can have a gain greater than 0dB or not but it's worth checking).
