Default Digi : Panther or Not ?

Hi Digi,

Apple announce that Panther os 10.3 is available.

As other Digi and mac users, I am on the Apple store page to buy 10.3.

But I wait for a digi information about the compatibility of Digi hard-soft and os 10.3.

Thanks in advance for your answer...

wait at least 3 months to purchase Panther, Apple and digi should have sorted out all the issues, by then. Also READ the digi G5 compatiblity announcements and related docs, the answer is in there.

best

an interesting benchmark (Jaguar vs. Panther) can be found here:
http://www.macfinity.de/downloads/do...er_benched.pdf
If the upcoming PT update works well it should be benefitial to take the dive, I guess.

OK, as usual : no answer from Digi team.

In fact my question was prehaps too simple. I ask it again.

I tested os 10.3 beta version on friend's computers (G3 and G4), and I saw this OS is absolutly nice (a sort of "real" and fast jaguar, and especially fast on G3 computer).

So I read compatibility section about G5 & Panther, but not a clear word about Panther alone..."compatibility with Panther expected in phase II" (end of 2003, like for the outcoming of Jaguar : wait ..10 months to obtain a pro Tools version working on Jaguar ?)

One year later, we don't have a multi-client version of the core audio driver..... :-(

So here's (again...) my question :

- I would buy panther quickly to gain rapidity on my Macs (especialy on my iBook)
- if I install Panther : will my mBox & PTLE work on this OS ?

Could Digidesign give a precise answer to this simple customer's question ?

Thanks

check the G5 compatibility pages - it says they'll have a patch for ProTools and Panther in Mid-November.

i think every one of us protools LE users should buy panther as soon as digi supports it. panther gives a noticeable performance boost to all pre-g5 macs; threading and io-operations will perform twice as fast as in jaguar. i predict panther will be at least close to os9 performance..

Why not make a separate partition and install Panther on it to check it out. If it fails, you still have your old Jaguar partition to do your Pro Tools work.

Unless Panther installation is an "update" / "upgrade" over the old Jaguar partition. But then again, you can still use CCC to clone your current system partition and reinstate it if it gets too bizzare.

Of coz, at the mo, you can only check things out with the beta versions.

My question (already posted but zero replies) is will Panther and the 001 plus G4 be compatible. I'm sure all other Digi systems will be fine as soon as Digi approves it though.

Yes, of course. That seems pretty clear doesn't it? Not sure why you're still confused on this issue.
