Default Suggestions for bouncing between Tape & PT LE?

Recently did a project which was initially tracked on 1" tape.
From there it was bounced from the tape machine, directly into Digi002 using an API8200, tracked everything at 24bit/96K.
It was mixed OTB (analog summing) in PT & then mixdowns bounced to 1/4" tape thru Distressors & API 560's on the 2 buss.

It sounds great on 1/4" tape.
Now I need to bounce it back into my DAW for the final edits & track sequencing/arranging/fades.

So, I was experimenting with bouncing directly from the 1/4" machine into a pair of inputs on the 002. Didn't really get great results.
So I tried it again, using my 2ch. Class A MicPre/EQ as the front end this time, sounds much better & can even sweeten it up a little more going back in.

But something is happening & I'm losing something, kind of hard to describe.
Once it's dumped back into PT, it sounds ok, but just not as good as when I play it directly off my 1/4" deck.

I record these at 16bit/44Khz, since it's going to end up as a master CD anyways.

Could this be a case of the 002's converters I keep hearing about?
Or is it because I am recording the 2-track mixes from tape at 16/44 ?

Would running through a Apogee MiniMe or similair help ?

How do you guys bounce from tape into a Digi002?

Thanks.

Yes, yes & maybe..
Converters both in and out of PT are a big part of the final sound..
happy tooling,

A little known fact is that the 002 inputs 5 & 6 are actually the best in terms of A/D conversion. I'm not saying that the converter's are great, but they are better than the others. 1-4 are actually the worst converters in the system.

Gotta love generation loss.

Hmmmm,
well i was always suspicious of 1-4 from the get go, since they have Mic level inputs as well.
I'll see if I can hear a difference between 5/6 or 7/8.

Right now I am considering an Apogee MiniMe.

Is that a fact? Has Digi confirmed that?
