Peak meter after fader?
Hi! I have googled and searched the forums without becoming much wiser on the subject. But i'm pretty sure this question has been adressed at some point, so anyone is welcome to point me in a direction by linking or whatever. I would like to see the peaks on my tracks(including the master) after the fader. This must be possible i guess, but i can't see how. I have read about the 17 different peak meter options but i'm unsure of which, if any of them, i should use for this. I'm quite new to pro tools, so still trying to figure alot of things out. Thanx in advance.

Re: Peak meter after fader?
Just for interest, I don't know if this is possible and even if, I wouldn't use it but what would be the benefit for you?

Re: Peak meter after fader?
JFreak: Have you ever used post metering on an audio track?

Re: Peak meter after fader?
Under options menu - pre/post fadee metering. It's global so will affect all tracks/faders.

Re: Peak meter after fader?
To the OP,
1-Since you are just getting started, the default metering is fine(at least until you learn why you want to switch). 2-Use pre-fade metering except in special circumstances(for most of us music-based folks, pre-fade might never get changed). 1 special circumstance(for me) might be mixing a dozen or more very similar sounds(like BG vocals or violins). As soon as those are balanced, I would switch right back to pre-fade 3-If you're worried about AFTER the fader, always have a master track in your session(so you can see that meter). 4-digital is not the same as analog in certain important ways; don't record too hot(the meter just touching the yellow is good). 5-Gain Staging(too deep for this thread) can make or break your recordings. On the simplest level, if most of your faders are down around -20(and track meters are right to the top), the your gain staging is not done well. And, if some of your faders are pushed right to the top, that's wrong too. 6-youtube is a decent free source of tutorials(some being better than others). Groove3 is an excellent source(for a modest cost)and you can count on all their tutorials to be very well done https://www.pro-tools-expert.com/pro...eid=efb3507a07

Re: Peak meter after fader?
It's always good to know what volume in db your tracks are, especially the master. I i want to bounce it and then send it to a mastering engineer, i wouldn't want the mix to be more than -3db loud... according to everything i ever learned.

Re: Peak meter after fader?
Sigh...
Deliverables arw bounced, not exported. And dor a bounce, you need an ourpuft. And every ourput has a master fader, you just need to set it visible by "creating" a master fader. And there you have a meter for your bounce volume Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
