Default Can\'t record on audio drives

I have drives dedicated to audio on my Mac. A 36 gig ATA drive and a 36 gig SCSI drive. Both worked fine under PT 5.3.1. Upgraded to Mac OS 10.2.3 and PT 6.1. Now when I record to these drives, I get nothing but static and broken audio during playback. Records fine to the system drive. I did update the driver for the SCSI controller from Adaptec's website, didn't help. I did erase the drives with Disk Utility in Mac OS X and made the drives Mac OS Extended. Anyone have any suggestions?

Adaptec really isn´t fit for HD-Rec, they have too high a payload to the PCI Bus.
I used an Adaptec 39160 and always got System overload Errors. The Adaptec 2930 (USCSI2) worked way better, but still not flawless. I now use Atto UL3D which is approved by digi.
But this is just one option.

best

OK, but why wouldn't the ATA drive work?

try upgrading to 10.2.6 (or at least 10.2.4) since important CoreAudio updates were included in these...it may help.

I know 10.2.8 just was released, but I'm not going for it just yet so I won't recommend it.
