Default AMD Radeon HD 7950 3072 MB graphics hang

Hello,

I recently replaced my factory graphics card with an AMD Radeon HD 7950 3072 MB. Whilst there is a performance improvement in all other aspects of usage, logic X & Final Cut, Pro-tools 11 doesn't seem as happy. I get short but regular graphics hang ups for about half a second, whilst this doesn't effect the audio it does play havoc with whatever the mouse is doing at that moment. for instance if i am midst pushing a fader up it will hang then shoot to maximum level, not good... You can also see the counter/clock hanging up intermittently.

I'm curious to know if anyone else is having similar issues? I guess the easiest solution would be to swap out the cards again but if possible it would be great to keep the enhanced performance the card offers.

many thanks

Hi,

Have you solved the problem yet? I have exact same problem here with Sapphire hd 7950 3Gb mac edition!

My specs are:

Mac Pro 5.1 (mid 2010)
OSX 10.10.3
Protools HD Native 11.3.0
Sapphire hd 7950 with 3 x fullHD monitor

Anyone have an idea what might help?

Same issue with my R9 280x which is a rebadged 7950, there are a lot of folks with this issue. Most likely its the AMD mac drivers in 10.10 all the way up to 10.10.4. On a positive note I installed the beta of El Capitan and the issue was gone.
Read the thread below and you will learn more about it and how to fix it for now running Quartz De Bug and disabling beam sync.

I tried upgrading my stock card to the Sapphire a few weeks ago and experienced the same hanging issues in PT11 HD and PT12 HD on Mavericks and Yosemite. I gave up and returned the card to OWC.

Thanks lancemcv, Quartz debug solved it!

To anyone with same issues, here is the fastest way to learn about Quartz debug and how to get rid of glitchy protools graphics on Yosemite:

I dont suppose anyone has any info on Quartz debug for mavericks? Or has anyone fixed this issue another way on Mavericks? Keen to stick with Mavericks as every other aspect of it is working great!

Hi,

I think i have solved this. I downloaded SwitchresX and changed the resolution 1080 PAL as opposed to NTSC. At least for now the glitch has gone away. I will post again if the problem reoccurs!

thanks

Alas the problem has returned. At least on larger projects.
