Default f12 words, but command space doesn't?

This is really frustrating me as I have used the 'Command + Spacebar' to record since the beginning of time.
f12 works, but I just wish command+space would instead.

Any ideas?
Mac pro, PT 10.0.1, Lion 10.7.3

I haven't changed anything (that I know of) and this has just stopped working overnight. I might have deleted prefs to fix another bug, but pretty sure Command+Space is a deafault setting in PT, no?

Pre-post is not on...

Cheers.

It's assigned by the OS in keyboard preferences to Spotlight - have you unchecked that assignment? Works here in PT 10.1.3.

Hello,

I don't know when this crept in but an associate showed me this trick. Apparently even though you've unselected it in the Keyboard Shortcuts it's still stolen by the OS. Once you activate a second keyboard language and de-select it, the stealing is gone. Here's how we got around it, follow along if you can -

System Preferences / Keyboard
Click on Keyboard tab
Click on Input Sources near bottom
Click on some other language, I picked Afghan Dari because it's at the top. This will turn on the Menu Bar selector.
Click the Back button at the top of the window.
Click on Keyboard Shortcuts tab.
Click on Spotlight.
You'll see Cmd/Space still taken, uncheck it.
Click on Keyboard tab.
Click on Input Sources.
Unselect Afghan Dari or whatever you picked, the menu bar selector will de-select as well.
Close System Preferences.

Should work now. Credit to Tim H.

Kudos to Hugh's associate and to Hugh for posting it.

For the record, this fix works in Snow Leopard, with the following difference:

In 10.6.x it's System Preferences > Language & Text > Input Sources.

Other than that, the procedure is the same.

Strangely, I had to do this on both my MBP and my Mac Pro. F12 worked normally, and on the number pad on the Mac, 3 works as long as I have the keypad set for Transport rather than Classic.

I was also having this problem with Pro Tools 11 installed on my Mac.

The solution was to simply uncheck the command + spacebar preference in the keyboard menu and then restart. The restart part took me the longest to figure out.
