Default Updating to 10.3.8. Any known issues?

I'm thinking about taking this rig as far as I can with the current hardware that I own.
I was wondering if there are any problems that I might encounter with this update on my system (see sig below).
Any help/suggestions/warnings are greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much for all of your help you've given me here over the years...

Guys, please learn to use avid.com knowledgebase so we mods should not perform basic searches for you all the time... :) There's a whole lot of information in the readme files...

Hi JFreak -

I read those docs before I posted.

As I'm sure you are well aware, some people here use this forum as a supplemental information source. The compat docs can be pretty confusing to those of us who aren't computer professionals, and with Avid phasing out our systems, one can never be too careful.

I'm hoping that there might be someone out here who has gone through an update to 10.3.8 with a system similar to mine. If so, I'd love to hear any issues; or, if it worked like a charm, I'd love to hear that as well.

Thank you!

I don't see any problem in your setup, if you upgrade to Mountain Lion 10.8.4 and PT 10.3.8 (besides the very old black hardware that have not had support since the PPC era...)

Searching is good but it can be hard to find what you're looking for. Tip: use "Google the Forum" from the top menu. Google is really good at finding relevant info.

On the other hand, I like for the forums to be a place not only to look for printed info but to talk directly to people.

I've updated to 10.3.8 a few times, on different machines. Non of the hardware configurations I've dealt with reminds me of yours, but your computer alone.

Issues that I've encountered have been related to plugins alone. A bug I encountered was that the Smack LE plugin was exchanged to Smack (full/HD) so I had to change back to my Smack LE. Sorry, can't remember now but the same thing happened to another Avid plugin too. You'll notice if you're affected (but I notice you're on HD already).

If your time is precious them see to it that you have a working backup before you start updating in case something goes wrong. Restoring a backup is usually faster and simpler than reinstalling it all from zero.

Good luck and happy updating!

Post Re: Updating to 10.3.8. Any known issues?

The facility I work at was using HD|2 Accel without a chassis on Nehalem Mac Pros (4,1). Two users had such heavy DSP usage that it exposed nasty bugs in v10 and I had to revert them to v9. Those bugs have not been fixed. If you find that you are maxing out your HD|4 system before updating to v10, beware that you might run into the same bugs. They manifest themselves as "out of voices" or "out of DSP" messages on sessions that open fine in v9. Sometimes these errors occur even if you have plenty of DSP and voices available.

I had another 9 systems using v10 without a problem, so it's not widespread. Just something to be aware of if you are close to the maximum DSP usage.

Thanks guys!
I updated and all seems stable. I'll open a big session tonight and see if it'll make it all the way through the song without a hiccup. :)
